DIY All Natural Toilet Bowl Cleaner

Cleaning the toilet is a chore many people dread for obvious reasons. In addition, the chemicals used in toilet bowl cleaners are extremely potent and can be harmful to those breathing in the fumes. To solve both of these common issues when it comes to cleaning the toilet, we have an all-natural toilet bowl cleaner that looks and acts just as fun as a bath bomb. Check out the recipe for a safe and effective cleaner below and have fun bubbling up the bowl!

Recipe:

95 gr Citric Acid (1/2 Cup)
200 gr Baking soda (1 1/2 Cup)
30 essential oil Lemon
30 essential oil peppermint or tea tree
Water

Directions:

Step 1: Place the 200 grams (or about a cup) of baking soda in a large mixing bowl.

Step 2: Take the 95 grams (or ¾ cup) of citric acid and add it to the mixing bowl. Mix the two ingredients together well.

Step 3: Add about 30 drops of lemon essential oil and 30 drops of peppermint or tea tree essential oil. Mix the essential oil drops into the dry mixture. This combination of essential oils smells amazing and also has disinfectant and antibacterial properties.

Step 4: Feel the consistency of the mixture to see if it will stick together. If the mixture falls apart in your hands, it is not wet enough, and more water will need to be added. The goal is for the mixture to be firm enough to hold its shape if molded, but not too soggy that it is oozing liquid.

Step 5: Use molds or ice cube trays to shape the mixture. Ice cube trays work great for this project, but if you have fun shaped molds, use those instead. The ingredients are safe enough to use on jello or other food molds. Whatever mold you choose to use, fill it with the cleaning mixture and let it sit to dry.

Step 6: After about 12-24 hours the all-natural toilet bowl cleaning blocks will be ready to break apart and store. Twist the mold to pop out the blocks of cleaner. Then place the toilet bowl cleaner tablets in an airtight jar to store. You will want to make sure these cleaning blocks stay very dry while they are in storage.

How to Use the Eco-Friendly Toilet Bowl Cleaner

DIY Toilet bombsUsing the toilet bowl cleaner is easy. All you need to do is take one of the blocks from the jar used for storage. Then simply drop the block into the toilet. The cleaner will naturally fizz and start to bubble. As it bubbles, use a toilet bowl brush to scrub the sides of the bowl. When you are finished scrubbing, flush the toilet. That’s it! You can walk out of the bathroom feeling accomplished and proud that you used products that will not harm the environment.

These affordable and all-natural toilet bowl cleaners will make the chore of cleaning the toilet an eco-friendly breeze!
