Choosing your fabric is the first and possibly the most fun step of this whole pillow making process! This step is also fairly easily because all you need to is grab an old t-shirt that you do not wear anymore. Sports teams t-shirts, old band t’s, or that perfect color fabric to match your space can all offer inspiration and even motivation to make these easy DIY T-shirt pillows.
Once you have chosen the perfect T-shirt for the fabric of your pillow, make sure you have enough to fit the pillow form. If the t-shit has not been washed, wash and dry the t-shirt so that the fabric shrinks. You will only want to work with pre-shrunk materials so that it does not shrink after it is cut and turned into a pillow.
Lay your T-shirt flat on a workspace. Then place the pillow form on top of the torso section of the t-shirt. Trace around the outside edge of the pillow with a fabric pencil. This line will be your guide on how far to cut your strips of fabric to tie around the pillow.
This pillow is fantastic because it does not require any sewing or fabric glue. In order to make this pillow, there needs to be strips of fabric to tie together. This leads us to the next step of cutting the strips of fabric. Cut strips of fabric from the outside edge of your fabric to the marked line. These strips should be about 1 inch apart.
The last step is to tie the edges of the t-shirt material. You will first want to lay the pillow form between the two layers of fabric. Make sure the side you want showing are facing out. Then, line up two strands of fabric from the front of the pillow and the back of the pillow. Tie a double knot around the pillow right on the line that marks the edge of your pillow form. Continue tying the strips of fabric around the pillow until the pillow form is completely covered by the t-shirt material.
This craft comes with a warning! Once you experience how easy and ecofriendly it is to make these pillows, the harder It will be to stop! Recycle those old t-shirts and turn them into new and affordable home décor. Adding an extra element of comfort to your home, has never been easier or greener. Why would you want to stop with one?

Mason Jars have a way of always being in fashion! Home décor from Country cottage to industrial design, to rustic chic, mason jars find their way to being an element to incorporate into your home décor while also being functional. The versatility and resourcefulness of mason jars makes them a perfect item to recycle and reuse. In this DIY project we will be using a reliable and timeless mason jar to showcase a photo in style. This project is perfect for home décor as it is easy to interchange the photos inside the mason jar. In addition, you have the opportunity to transform the jar to add your own flare and design elements to reflect the space you are planning to display the mason jar photo holder. For now, choose a favorite photo, grab an old mason jar, look in your craft supplies for items to highlight the jar, and that is simply all you need to get started on a wonderful family photo display for a beautiful and resourceful addition of décor to any space.
Mason Jar
Favorite photo at the moment
Primer
Scissors
Tape
Masking Tape or Adhesive label (if painting the jar)
Paint Brush (only if painting)
Clear Spray Paint (optional)
Acrylic Paints (optional)
Contact Paper (optional)
Artificial Flowers or leaves (optional)
Twine or Ribbon (optional)
Any other items to add a little flare to your mason jar photo frame
1-You will want to have an idea of the type of decor you will add to your mason jar. Take a look at the space you wish to place the mason jar photo holder in. In addition, search around in your craft items to see what would match the décor in that space. A wonderful element to this project is that you really do not need to buy any extra items other than a mason jar, photo, and what you already have at home. Basically, this is a chance to take out all those old craft items you have been storing, and finally put them to good use in a stylish and functional way. When looking through our craft items, we had some white paint that was perfect for this project.
The space we wanted to use the mason jar photo holder in already had several colors in the space, so white was a great option for adding a little flare to the photo holder, without distracting from the space or the photo itself. If you do not have white paint but want a nice white tent to the outside of the mason jar photo holder, you could use white tissue paper and craft glue. Using tissue paper will allow the mason jar to be recycled again without much fuss.
2-If you are painting your mason jar, you will want to ensure there is a window to see the photo through the glass. To preserve a space from being painted or glued over, take masking tape or an adhesive label and press it down on the center of the jar. The adhesive should stick tightly to the glass so that when it is painted over or glued, the area with the adhesive protectant will be preserved. If you plan on placing flowers, leaves, or bows on top of the mason jar, you may want to place the adhesive protectant layer a little lower so those décor elements on the lid do not hang down and cover the window to your photo. Again, painting or adding a decorative flare to your mason jar photo holder is completely optional. Your photo holder will look just as incredible without additional decor items.
3-If you are painting the exterior of your mason jar photo holder, now is the time. Paint the entire mason jar with a thin layer of paint. If you are using tissue paper and craft glue instead, apply a thin layer of craft glue, then add a layer of tissue paper on top of the glue. The tissue paper will practically melt into the craft glue. Press the tissue paper to the glass jar with your hands or a paintbrush. Layer the tissue paper onto the glass as thick or thin as you would like. Whether painting or applying tissue paper, stroke the paint or glue out from the label to the glass. If you use too much pressure painting on the edges of the adhesive it could affect the crisp window line we want in the final product.
4-Before the paint (or glue) fully dries, remove the masking tape or label that was used to create the window to frame your photo. Removing the label while the paint (or glue) is still damp will aid in a clean removal, that won’t tear off any extra tissue paper or paint.
5-Last, but of course not least is our star of the show; the photo! Choose a photo that you love. Place the photo next to the mason jar to see how the size compares to the shape of the jar. It is expected for the photo to be slightly curved inside the jar. If the photo is extremely large, go ahead and trim off some of the edges of the jar. Then place the photo inside the mason jar and see how it sizes up inside the mason jar. If you realize the photo will not sit well inside the window, do not loose hope. Instead, take a little tape, fold it over on itself so that it is double-sided (or use double-sided tape if you have some) to secure the photo to the inside-back of the jar. This way the photo is stays exactly where it needs to in order to be in the frame.
6-To add a little extra flare, now is the time to include those additional craft elements that make the mason jar photo holder your own. Flowers glued to the lid, a twine bow, or accent jewels are a great addition to the exterior of your mason jar. Whatever, and however you customize your mason jar photo holder, you can be sure that this craft is a creative and personalized element to add that much more of a personal touch to any space.
Not only are mason jars affordable, they are resourceful. Use mason jars for canning, storing bulk items, and now, you can use them to frame your precious family photos in style. Use this DIY mason jar photo frame to add a stylish accent to your home or office.
Display beautiful photos for yourself with minimal supplies. Or, use the instructions to create a personalized and thoughtful gift. The possibilities are endless, which makes the DIY mason jar craft a perfect activity to create an unforgettable piece of art without the cost and economic footprint of comparable photo décor items.

We love self-care and especially items that enhance our self-care time, such as the oh so popular bath bombs. While it may be easy to grab a bath bomb or similar skincare item from a shelf and call it a day, those products often contain chemicals that are not the best for your skin, and even worse for the environment. Not to mention the packing materials that are involved in the process of each beauty product. That is why we just had to share this lava rock bath bomb recipe. These lava rock bath bombs are just one example that self-care and beauty routines do not need to change in order to help the environment. In fact, not only will you be able to enjoy a relaxing bath without stressing about the chemicals in the tub, you will also save money. This bath bomb recipe costs pennies per lava rock and there is no packaging needed. That’s what we call an environmental win-win!
1/2 cup epsom salts
½ cup citric acid
¾ cup cornstarch
2 TBSP coconut oil (or oil of choice)
30-40 drops of essential oil
1 TSP water
1 cup baking soda
Food coloring or 2 teaspoons activated charcoal
Mold
2 bowls
Whisk
1-We like to start with the most important part for us; selecting the scents. Essential oils are a perfect and natural way to add wonderful smells without the harmful chemical fragrances. We also like to choose the essential oils out first, as their scents can complement the aroma of the carrier oils used in the bath bombs. There are several different types of carrier oils that you can select from. Each carrier oil has its own benefits to your skin. We chose coconut oil for the moisturizing effects. Doing your research on different types of carrier oils and the benefits of other natural oils is a great way to expand your knowledge in the world of natural beauty products. Once you are satisfied with your selection of carrier oil and essential oils, add the correct amounts, and whisk them together.
2-Next, add in the 1 cup of baking soda to the oil mixture and stir until it is completely mixed.
3. For the next step you will need a separate bowl. Place the 1/2 cup epsom salts, ½ cup citric acid, ¾ cup cornstarch, and the tsp activated charcoal (if desired) into the bowl. Mix these dry ingredients together.
4. After your dry ingredients are mixed, slowly add them to the mixture of oil and baking soda.
5. If you added charcoal to your mixture prior, you do not need to add any more coloring. However, if you chose to use food coloring instead, now is your time to shine! Add blue and red food coloring drops and mix them into the bath bomb mixture. You may need to add a tiny bit of water to see the actual color better. It is best if this step is done using only a tiny bit of moister at a time. If you add too much moisture to the dry ingredients, it will start to bubble up and waste some of your materials.
6. Take the mold that you are planning on using for the lava rock bath bombs. In this example we used a silicon muffin pan. This item worked well because it was easy to remove the bath bombs due to the silicon’s flexibility. The materials are all natural and did not hurt the cooking tray. You could also use an ice cream tray, muffin pan, or an actual mold for bath bombs (but why buy a new product when another item will work just fine). Once you have your mold, place a small amount of oil on the edges of the mold so that the bath bomb will easily slide out when it is dry.
7. Now is when the project gets really messy! Take about two tablespoons worth of the mixture and place it in the molds. We found that this step is easiest when done with your hands. If you have sensitive skin, we recommend wearing reusable gloves to protect your skin during this step. The bath bombs are eventually meant to be diluted in water. Your skin will love the great materials in this recipe, but handing the baking soda and citric acid in full force can irritate the skin.
8. The mixture needs to dry for at least 24 hours. Place the molds in a cool, dry place to dry. If you notice the bath bombs growing, that only means that there is a little too much moisture. Simply press down on the bubbling mixture while it is drying. Compacting the mixture while it is drying will create a tighter, more reactive bath bomb.
9. After the lava rock bath bombs are completely dry, remove them from the mold. Store them in an air-tight container and use as frequently as you would like!

Everyone’s home is unique to their personality and style. Having an eco-friendly home doesn’t mean you need to sacrifice your style or décor!
What makes this home diffuser special is the ability to change up so many elements of the diffuser to create functional home décor that fits your style. In addition, this is a reusable, electricity-free diffuser, making it a sustainable product to keep in your home or give as a gift. Have fun with this simple craft and create a piece that will brighten up a room for years to come.
Before going to buy any new products, look to see what you already have at home. Is there an old vase that you don’t use at home? Maybe some leftover skewers from a BBQ? Perfect, use these items for your homemade diffuser. It will make it even more unique to you!
In a bowl (preferably one with a spout) measure out ¼ cup of your carrier oil. I used bay oil but avocado oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, castor oil, safflower seed oil, or any other mildly scented oil will work. If you have a smaller vase than ¼ cup, go ahead and put the carrier oil directly in your vase to insure it will not overflow once you add the other ingredients.
Next, add your favorite essential oils. You’ll need about 20 drops of the essential oils to create a strong, room-freshening smell. Adjust the drops accordingly if you wish to add several different scents. For my diffuser, I used 7 drops of lavender oil, 7 drops of eucalyptus, then 7 drops of a stress relief mixture that I love. Ultimately, the ratio of oils should be about 75% carrier oil to 25% essential oil.
Mix the oils together. If you are using a different container to mix your ingredients, then pour them into the vase you would like to use. Once the oils are in the final glass, give the oils a final swirl around in your glass vase.
The sharp points on skewer sticks can be concerning. However, scissors may not be strong enough to cut through the stick. Cut off that sharp edge with a knife or pruning shears to be safe. You can do the same thing to reeds or bamboo that you want to be shorter to fit into your glass container.
To create a lasting smell with the oils, place both ends of the reed in the oil mixture before leaving the diffuser to sit. The oil on the top of the bamboo will evaporate and fill the area with their smell faster than waiting for the oil from the glass to travel up the bamboo.
The bamboo pieces work best if they are not completely saturated in oil, so keep an eye on how full the bamboo pieces look to protect the longevity of the diffuser. You can replace the saturated bamboo pieces with new, dry pieces. Save the saturated bamboo to throw on a campfire to add a delightful aroma to your fire.
Mix up your oil combination often. If the oil has not evaporated by the end of the week, go a head and swirl it around in the glass to get is stirred up again.
If you feel the mixture is not evaporating at the rate you would like, you can add a few drops of alcohol to the oil mixture to help accelerate the evaporation process. You can also flip the ends of the bamboo about every 3 days to speed up the scent releasing process.
Once you made your own, consider making one as a gift. Reusable products like this diffuser are presents that keep on giving!
Freshening up your home just got easier and more eco-friendly with this homemade diffuser. Change out the oil mixtures based on your mood, season, or simply what oils you have at the time. Making homemade, sustainable decor is perfect for any home, especially for those looking to add their own flare to a room.

“Out of sight, out of mind” is an axiom that many live by, especially when cleaning. A clean home is associated with no trace of noticeable dirt, stainless carpets, and not a dirty dish in sight. Such a home is typically unrealistic, but that does not change the effort put into a perfect home. There is a common belief that once the surfaces in a home are clean, and all the imperfections gone, the home is healthier, and most fitted for families. The pressures of maintaining a clean home can lead to an urgency to complete the job regardless of the materials being used. Due to this urgency, it is easy to overlook the toxic and harsh ingredients in cleaning products that should be replaced. We will explain some misconceptions of cleaning products and how to truly make your home a healthier place with alternative options.
One specific area that is overlooked for safety but used daily is dish detergent. When getting the dishes done, we do not stop to consider the ingredients in detergents. These ingredients are landing on our plates, sitting on the shelves in our homes, and affecting us and our loved ones.
Many dish detergents contain toxins which are harmful, and in some cases, could be affecting our health. Fragrances, Phthalates, Benzothiazolinone, Sodium hypochlorite (bleach), and dyes are all concerning ingredients commonly found in the average dish detergent. Fragrances can trigger asthmas or allergies, and can also be made up of several unknow chemicals. Phthalates, are known to cause skin and eye burns. Sodium hypochlorite (bleach) as well as dyes, have a history of being skin irritants, which also are dangerous if consumed.
While the most common side effects of dish detergents are irritated skin and harmful residue, there is far harsher risks if the average store-bought detergents are ingested. In fact, the dishwasher detergents are fatal when consumed and have sadly taken the lives of children. Such toxic material is concerning to have in your home, especially with children. Their damage doesn’t end once you wash them down the drain, as these chemicals could potentially make their way into the environment.
Like with all cleaning supplies, the ingredient lists are not monitored by the USDA. Due to the lack of supervision, it is crucial to check out the ingredient list of your dish detergents to avoid any harmful chemicals, or simply follow the recipe for an all-natural, eco-friendly dish detergent to use in your home.
- 3 lemons
- 10 oz of White vinegar
- 1 cup of Sea salt
- 17 oz of Water
First, squeeze the lemons to extract the juice. Then, combine all the ingredients in a saucepan. Boil the mixture for about 15-20 min. Let the mixture cool down and pour it into a bottle of your choice for storage. You will only need to use 2 TBSP for a normal load in the dishwasher. Simply place the liquid detergent into the detergent holder on the machine as usual. This detergent can also be used without the use of a dishwasher.
Doing the dishes is a chore that is seldom enjoyed. Simply completing the task feels like an accomplishment, but don’t let your dishes be the reason for toxins in your home. Use the easy and eco-friendly dish detergent above to keep your kitchen clean and naturally healthy!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, we could not do it without you!

Cleaning the toilet is a chore many people dread for obvious reasons. In addition, the chemicals used in toilet bowl cleaners are extremely potent and can be harmful to those breathing in the fumes. To solve both of these common issues when it comes to cleaning the toilet, we have an all-natural toilet bowl cleaner that looks and acts just as fun as a bath bomb. Check out the recipe for a safe and effective cleaner below and have fun bubbling up the bowl!
Step 1: Place the 200 grams (or about a cup) of baking soda in a large mixing bowl.
Step 2: Take the 95 grams (or ¾ cup) of citric acid and add it to the mixing bowl. Mix the two ingredients together well.
Step 3: Add about 30 drops of lemon essential oil and 30 drops of peppermint or tea tree essential oil. Mix the essential oil drops into the dry mixture. This combination of essential oils smells amazing and also has disinfectant and antibacterial properties.
Step 4: Feel the consistency of the mixture to see if it will stick together. If the mixture falls apart in your hands, it is not wet enough, and more water will need to be added. The goal is for the mixture to be firm enough to hold its shape if molded, but not too soggy that it is oozing liquid.
Step 5: Use molds or ice cube trays to shape the mixture. Ice cube trays work great for this project, but if you have fun shaped molds, use those instead. The ingredients are safe enough to use on jello or other food molds. Whatever mold you choose to use, fill it with the cleaning mixture and let it sit to dry.
Step 6: After about 12-24 hours the all-natural toilet bowl cleaning blocks will be ready to break apart and store. Twist the mold to pop out the blocks of cleaner. Then place the toilet bowl cleaner tablets in an airtight jar to store. You will want to make sure these cleaning blocks stay very dry while they are in storage.
Using the toilet bowl cleaner is easy. All you need to do is take one of the blocks from the jar used for storage. Then simply drop the block into the toilet. The cleaner will naturally fizz and start to bubble. As it bubbles, use a toilet bowl brush to scrub the sides of the bowl. When you are finished scrubbing, flush the toilet. That’s it! You can walk out of the bathroom feeling accomplished and proud that you used products that will not harm the environment.
These affordable and all-natural toilet bowl cleaners will make the chore of cleaning the toilet an eco-friendly breeze!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, we could not do it without you!

While you may not willingly pour toxic chemicals straight into the ground water outside, it is happening everyday through the use of most common cleaning products. The chief of these pollutants are laundry detergents. The ingredients used in the common laundry cleaners, and their effects, are being examined and the results are quite startling.
Several health concerns have recently been brought to light, and the prime suspect is none other than off-the-shelf detergent. Many side effects such as skin irritations, headaches, and allergies may seem mild, but the underlying causes of these conditions is much more problematic.
Certain chemicals added to laundry detergent to provide a “fresh” scent comes with risks of their own. As one smells the “lavender soft” fragrance in their newly washed clothes, they are breathing in more than just a natural lavender scent. A recent study done at the University of Washington unveiled the truth about fragrances used in cleaners. The results showed that over 58 differed volatile compounds were used in laundry detergents. Seven of the compounds are considered to be hazardous under federal law. It is no surprise, as people have long reported to have headaches come on at the smells of some laundry soaps. This may be because they are breathing in poisons designed to act as a natural scent.
You may ask, how do laundry soap manufacturers get away with placing harmful chemicals in our everyday cleaning products? The reason is due to producers not being required to disclose the ingredients of their cleaning products. Cleaning product manufacturers can use almost any ingredient and place it on market without any second thought or supervision. According to the EWG Guide to Healthy Cleaning, an organization that analyzes and rates household cleaners based on their eco-friendliness, laundry detergent toxicity is a sad reality. Many of the largest selling laundry soaps scored a “D” in their eco-friendliness, when tested and evaluated. Not only are these products a concern to the environment, they are causing issues in the consumers as well. This lack of monitoring leaves the average consumer in the dark about the toxins in their homes, clothes, and what will eventually be put back into the Earth.
Furthermore, consumers are paying top dollar for their favorite brands, without a thought for a more wallet friendly solution. Instead of falling into the trap of laundry soap chemicals and cost, create your own eco-friendly laundry soap for a fraction of the cost of the toxic alternatives. Follow the recipe below for a quick and easy laundry soap that works effectively to give you clean linens, and also a clean conscience for protecting your loved ones and the environment.
◾1 bar of pure castile soap
◾1 cup of washing soda (sodium carbonate)
◾2tbs citric acid
◾1/4 c. Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate)
Begin by grating the castile soap. If you have a food processor or high-speed blender those can be used to turn the castile soap into a powder (just chop the bars into small pieces before blending). Next, combine and mix the rest of the ingredients; washing soda, citric acid and epsom salt. then store in containers of your choice. Each small load of laundry will take about 1 Tbsp and 2 Tbsps for larger loads.
When striving to care better for our planet, we often end up benefiting ourselves too. By switching to all natural, non-toxic cleaning products such as this laundry detergent, you will be exposing yourself to less toxic chemicals and overwhelming scents. In addition, you will also save money and feel a peace about doing your part to protect the Earth’s resources from harmful substances. Take a small step for a big impact simply by using this eco-friendly laundry detergent when doing your chores and soak in the benefits for yourself!
Note: If three is a bad stain, add 1/2 cup of Hydrogen Peroxide the wash. In addition, distilled white vinegar will brighten whites, and remove strong odors. This ecofriendly, DIY laundry detergent is safe to use in HE front-load washers.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, we could not do it without you!
