1-Choose Your T-Shirt

Choosing your fabric is the first and possibly the most fun step of this whole pillow making process! This step is also fairly easily because all you need to is grab an old t-shirt that you do not wear anymore. Sports teams t-shirts, old band t’s, or that perfect color fabric to match your space can all offer inspiration and even motivation to make these easy DIY T-shirt pillows.

Once you have chosen the perfect T-shirt for the fabric of your pillow, make sure you have enough to fit the pillow form.  If the t-shit has not been washed, wash and dry the t-shirt so that the fabric shrinks. You will only want to work with pre-shrunk materials so that it does not shrink after it is cut and turned into a pillow.

2-Measure the Pillow Size

Lay your T-shirt flat on a workspace. Then place the pillow form on top of the torso section of the t-shirt. Trace around the outside edge of the pillow with a fabric pencil. This line will be your guide on how far to cut your strips of fabric to tie around the pillow.

3-Cut the Edges To The Fabric

Measure about three inches from the marked line from the pillow. Then cut through both layers of the t-shirt fabric to create a rectangle or square larger than the pillow form.

4-Cut the Edges

This pillow is fantastic because it does not require any sewing or fabric glue. In order to make this pillow, there needs to be strips of fabric to tie together. This leads us to the next step of cutting the strips of fabric. Cut strips of fabric from the outside edge of your fabric to the marked line. These strips should be about 1 inch apart.

 5-Ties the edges

The last step is to tie the edges of the t-shirt material. You will first want to lay the pillow form between the two layers of fabric. Make sure the side you want showing are facing out. Then, line up two strands of fabric from the front of the pillow and the back of the pillow. Tie a double knot around the pillow right on the line that marks the edge of your pillow form. Continue tying the strips of fabric around the pillow until the pillow form is completely covered by the t-shirt material.

Enjoy Your New DIY T-shirt Pillow!
