5 DIY Recycled and Eco-Friendly Father’s Days Cards that Your Dad will Love!

5 DIY Recycled and Eco-Friendly Father’s Days Cards that Your Dad will Love!

After spring cleaning, it is typical to find more craft items hidden around the house than most realize. These crafting items could be stored or donated to clear up some clutter, but why not reuse the items in your home to save money and practice shrinking our carbon footprint. In celebration of the upcoming Father’s Day, I decided to use the craft paper, glue, paints, and markers to create 5 simple DIY cards for the holiday. Use these five tutorials to create your own one of a kind card for that special dad in your life!

1-Hand-Painted Card

There is nothing quite as simple and original as a good-old hand shaped painted card. Dads love the hand paintings because it is so personal to their own child. Their son or daughter will never be that size again, and having a handprint is a sweet memory of that time of their life. To make the handprint card that much better, this hand-painted card can be transformed into several fun shapes and characters that are custom to the dad you have in mind. Lions, tigers, dinosaurs, and even superheroes can be transformed from handprint paintings, but, a trending figure that is sure to catch his eye is the oh so popular Yoda from Star Wars. This card is a hit with Star Wars dads, but also every other dad will appreciate the creativity and art that this Yoda hand card brings.

If you would like to print off a template of the Yoda sketch and have your child paint their hand over the sketch of Yoda, that works as well. 2-Shirt and Tie Father's Day Card

DIY father tie cardsFor those business dads out there, or those dads who appreciate a fun tie every once in a while, this shirt and tie Father’s Day card is for them! What is great about the Father’s Day tie card is that it is the perfect craft for using up those old paper scraps. Honestly, any pattern will work well for this paper tie card. Choose a bright pattern for the tie portion, cut a tie shape out of the paper, then look for a solid color to pair for the jacket portion on the card. This card craft is so simple because you will have the base of a basic cardstock card the same color as the shirt collar. From your base card, you only need to build the shirt collar and tie by gluing layers of the paper “clothing” on top of the card’s cover. Start by gluing down the collar cut out, then the tie cut out on top. This may take a little trimming and resizing of the tie size to get it just right. When your tie and collar fit well on your card’s cover, you can start adding those details that you know the dad in your life will appreciate. Buttons, a jacket, a lapel, are all great additions to give this card an extra flare.

3-"I Love You This Much Card":

DIY I LOVE YOU DAD CARDThe truth is, when it comes to Father’s Day, the more specific the card is to your children, the better. So, here is another DIY hand cut-out card again because we just cannot get enough, and neither will the dad in your life. This card “I love you this much” card is as simple as it looks. The best part is, this card also only requires scrap paper, glue, and a marker. Talk about simple and eco-friendly! Start by tracing the hands of the child (or children) of the father you wish to celebrate. Then, cut out those paper hands and write “I love you…” on one of the hands. Next, take a strip of paper, 12 inches by 2 inches and fold it back and forth until it makes a little zigzagged shape. On the strip of paper write “this much.” Take the two ends of the folded strip of paper and glue them to each of the paper hands. Finally, your card is done with limited materials and lots of love!

4-Puzzle Dad Card

DIY puzzle dad cardOne thing dad’s love more than dad jokes, is a good puzzle. This simple DIY Father’s Day card not only includes the opportunity to write your own dad joke, you can also make it into a one of a kind puzzle for your dad to solve. You can choose to print pre-made puzzles from https://koriclark.com/2011/06/09/fathers-day-card-game/ or you can create your own messages in a quick and easy way. On the inside of the card, write all the words that you would like the dad in your life to find. It could be adjectives that describe the dad, or it could be words such as “Happy,” “Fathers,” “Day,” “You,” “Are,” “The,” “Best!”. Then take a piece of graph paper and glue it on the front of the card. When you have selected the words you would like to use in the word search, start to write them in the spaces on the graph paper. When you have written in all of your words for your dad to find, then fill in any empty spaces with random letters. Make sure your handwriting is the same for every letter on the word search, this will make the puzzle more of a challenge for your dad.

5-Watercolor Father’s Day Card

DIY watercolor cardWatercolors are excellent tools for crafting. They are inexpensive, easy to clean up, simple to use, and they create some fantastic looking results. This is why watercolor paints are a great choice for creating DIY Father’s Day cards. Even if the father in your life is not into art, they will appreciate the time you put into the handmaid painting you created just for them. If you are not much of an artist yourself, stick with painting background colors in his favorite colors of paints. Then, simply cut out a shape that is custom to him. Golf balls and tees, tools, fish, boats, lighthouses, a grill, or a dog are often shapes that dads really connect with. Once you have your perfectly painted background, and a paper cutout glued on top, feel free to add a special note to your dad inside the cutout shape. It is just one more way to make your card unique and  special to your dad.
